Drying Agents

Drying agents are substances which are suitable to absorb humidity, in general water, and to bind it. Drying agents are classified according to their mode of effect in the groups of chemically acting (formation of hydrates under utilization of the hygroscopicity which is specific for this active ingredient) and the groups of physically acting agents (adsorption). Calcium sulphate, silica gel, magnesium oxide, aluminium oxide and other additives are used as drying agents in plastics.
