Hydrophobics
Hydrophobic substances are mainly used in textile applications (fabrics, non wovens), often in geo textiles. The water repellent effect causes a minimised water permeability or rather wettability which is due to a reduction of the surface energy. The contact angle of corresponding liquids (water, alcohol, oils, fatty substances) becomes much bigger. Apart from the water permeability there can also be advantages regarding dirt repellency (anti soil) and optimised cleaning. The effect is not only reduced to water, but it is also effective against less polar liquids (alcohol, oils).
