Foaming Agents

are additives which split off blowing gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen or water vapor under the influence of heat. On the one side blowing agents are used against shrink marks on the plastic surface, on the other hand in order to reduce the density. In some cases it is also possible to achieve special surface effects (streaks, marbling a.s.o.). The different types of blowing agent systems are endothermic agents (mixtures similar to baking powder) or exothermic agents (azodicarbonamide) which have to match with the respective plastic applications.
